California's June 2 top-two primary for the 4th congressional district features longtime incumbent Mike Thompson facing limited opposition in a district with a strong Democratic lean. Thompson, who has held the seat for nearly three decades, confronts a single notable Democratic challenger in Eric Jones, a venture capitalist and philanthropist emphasizing housing affordability and generational economic issues. Six Republican candidates and one independent round out the field, yet the district's partisan makeup and Thompson's established fundraising and name recognition position the two Democrats to advance under California's nonpartisan primary rules. With the filing deadline passed and voting just over two weeks away, trader consensus reflects the absence of any late surge by Republican entrants or credible threats to the leading pair.
