The crowded field and recent July polling keep the contest for second place in Rio de Janeiro’s Senate race tightly balanced, with Benedita da Silva (PT) atop surveys at 11-16% while a cluster of candidates including Marcelo Crivella, Waguinho (Republicanos), Mônica Benício (PSOL), Pedro Paulo (PSD), and Carlos Portinho (PL) sit within a few points of one another. Flávio Bolsonaro’s presidential bid has opened space on the right, fragmenting support across parties and leaving name recognition and regional strongholds as key differentiators ahead of the October vote. Traders assign comparable probabilities to several contenders because no clear consolidation has occurred, and further shifts in alliances or late polling could reorder the middle of the pack before election day.
