The Rio Grande do Sul Senate race features an open contest for two seats, with no incumbents seeking reelection and roughly a dozen declared or pre-candidates spanning parties from PT and PSOL on the left to PL, NOVO, and PSD on the center-right. Early polling and recent candidate debates highlight a fragmented field where support remains dispersed, keeping probabilities for second place tightly clustered near even odds among leading names such as Paulo Pimenta, Marcel Van Hattem, Frederico Antunes, and Germano Rigotto. Official campaigning begins in mid-August ahead of the October 4 first-round vote, with coalition negotiations, regional turnout patterns in key municipalities, and any late endorsements or policy contrasts on state debt and federal relations likely to determine which contenders pull ahead or consolidate second-place positioning.
