Lula maintains a commanding position in Maranhão for first place in the 2026 presidential first round, reflecting sustained regional backing in the Northeast where the incumbent has historically drawn strong voter support from key demographics and aligned local networks. Recent Quaest polling conducted in late August showed Lula at 58% against Flávio Bolsonaro at 20%, with all other listed candidates at 2% or below and notable undecided or blank shares. Trader consensus aligns with these patterns, pricing in limited near-term shifts ahead of the October 4 vote. Potential challengers would require major campaign momentum, candidate consolidation, or turnout changes among opposition bases to narrow the gap substantially.
