Trump's approval rating has trended downward throughout 2026, recently reaching new lows near 33-38 percent amid ongoing military actions against Iran that began with strikes in mid-July. Polling averages from sources including The Economist/YouGov, Gallup, and the New York Times reflect this decline, driven by foreign policy developments, affordability pressures, and economic sentiment ahead of the November midterms. Earlier 2026 readings started higher following the January 2025 inauguration but have shown limited recovery despite policy actions. Key variables for any rebound in the remainder of the year include shifts in the Iran conflict, legislative outcomes on spending or taxes, and midterm election results that could alter the political environment. Traders assess these factors against historical patterns of second-term approval volatility.
