Persistent cloud cover, showers, and northeast winds off Lake Michigan are moderating overnight radiative cooling in Chicago on September 17, keeping the daily minimum near the mid-60s rather than allowing a sharper drop. Official NWS and model guidance show lows around 66°F amid high humidity and limited clear-sky periods, though localized variations near the lake or brief clearing could push readings lower. Historical September averages near 58°F highlight how the current pattern deviates from typical fall cooling. With market-implied odds nearly even between the 66-67°F bin and 59°F or below, traders are weighing the strength of this marine influence and any late-day forecast adjustments against the possibility of greater overnight clearing.
