Maryland's 5th congressional district maintains a strong Democratic tilt rooted in its suburban Washington, D.C. demographics and consistent electoral performance, with the prior incumbent winning by double-digit margins. Following Steny Hoyer's retirement announcement, Adrian Boafo secured the Democratic nomination in the June 2026 primary, positioning the party to retain the seat against Republican nominee Chris Chaffee in the November general election. Current trader consensus assigns the Democratic Party a 94.5% implied probability, reflecting the district's structural advantages and limited recent shifts in voter registration or polling. Factors that could realistically alter the outcome include an unusually strong national Republican wave, a significant scandal or health issue affecting the Democratic nominee, or substantially higher than expected Republican turnout in southern Maryland counties.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
