Incumbent Republican Chris Smith, serving since 1981 and facing no primary opposition, benefits from the district's longstanding Republican lean across Monmouth and Ocean counties. Forecasters rate the race Solid or Safe Republican based on voting history and structural factors. Democrat Rachel Peace, who won her June primary, must overcome these advantages in the November general election. Trader consensus reflected in current pricing aligns with this assessment, though late shifts in national conditions, turnout patterns among key voting blocs, or unexpected developments could still alter the outcome before Election Day.
