Market-implied odds heavily favor a 25-basis-point Selic cut at the Banco Central do Brasil’s September Copom meeting, reflecting trader consensus on the continuation of the gradual easing cycle initiated earlier in 2026. The central bank lowered the benchmark rate to 14.00% at its August 5 decision, aligning with expectations amid moderating economic activity and headline inflation that eased to 4.44% year-over-year in July—now within the 1.5–4.5% target band. Recent data showing slower price growth in food, transport, and fuel components, alongside a cooling labor market, have reinforced views that upside inflation risks have diminished enough to support another quarter-point reduction while keeping policy restrictive overall. Analysts’ forecasts remain split on the pace beyond September, with some projecting a hold at 14.00% through year-end and others anticipating further measured cuts, underscoring data-dependence ahead of the next policy review.
