Broad cross-party support from groups including the Burnaby Citizens Association, combined with his background as a former firefighter and independent, has limited momentum for challengers such as Heymann Yip of the Burnaby First party and independent Michael Angelo. Nomination filings remain open until September 11, leaving room for additional candidates, yet trader consensus reflects Hurley’s established position and the absence of significant opposition. Potential shifts could arise from late-emerging contenders, turnout shifts among key voting blocs, or unexpected developments during the campaign period starting September 19.
