Recent National Weather Service forecasts and model guidance for Chicago on September 3 point to highs in the upper 80s, with scattered showers and thunderstorms under a shifting wind pattern that introduces modest uncertainty in peak readings. A strong southwest flow sustaining late-summer heat and humidity through September 1–2 is expected to weaken as winds turn west then north, allowing lake-breeze moderation near the shoreline while inland areas may briefly reach the low 90s before convection develops. This positions 88–91 °F as the tightly contested range in trader consensus, reflecting both the climatological average near 80 °F and the narrow window for exceeding it amid ongoing model spread on storm timing and intensity. Updated NWS briefings and afternoon model runs remain the key near-term catalysts.
