Recent August ISM Services PMI strength at 55.4—well above the 54.3 consensus and July’s 54.1—has anchored trader expectations for September near the mid-54 to mid-55 range, with the two leading bins capturing nearly half the probability. Subcomponents showed broad-based demand gains, including business activity at 61.7 and new orders at 60.9, alongside rising backlogs and inventories, though employment remained in contraction at 47.8 and the prices index climbed to 72.6 amid tariff and Middle East supply-chain pressures. Market-implied odds therefore balance the risk of sustained momentum from summer seasonality and resilient services activity against potential moderation toward the 12-month average near 53.7, given cautious hiring and elevated input costs. The September release, due in early October, will clarify whether these dynamics persist.
