Early praise centered on Dominic Sessa’s lead performance, director Matt Johnson’s empathetic coming-of-age framing, and A24’s restrained approach to the chef’s formative kitchen summer. With the limited theatrical rollout beginning August 7 and wider expansion planned, further reviews and the eventual audience Popcornmeter could still nudge the certified score; historical patterns show mid-90s starts for similar prestige biopics often hold above 90% once the full critical pool is counted.
