Rising geopolitical tensions from the U.S.-Iran conflict have pushed oil and gasoline prices sharply higher, elevating energy components and supporting upside risks to the September CPI month-over-month reading. August's 0.4% headline gain and hotter-than-expected 0.3% core increase, both released September 11, underscore sticky underlying pressures amid supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz. Consumer one-year inflation expectations jumped to 4.6% in early September surveys, reflecting spillover concerns to goods and services. With the next CPI release due October 14 and the FOMC meeting imminent, trader-implied odds remain dispersed across 0.1–0.8% outcomes, pricing in uncertainty over whether energy effects dominate or core moderation emerges.
