Recent seismic data from the USGS indicate a notable lull in global activity following five magnitude 7.0+ events through April 2026, including the 7.5 in Tonga and 7.4s in Indonesia and Japan, all along Pacific Ring of Fire subduction zones. No further 7.0+ quakes have occurred since April 20 amid moderate overall seismicity, with the latest reports showing only isolated 5.0–6.0 events. This pattern aligns with the long-term average of roughly 15–16 such quakes annually, though the inherent variability of fault slip and aftershock sequences creates uncertainty in short-term forecasts. Continuous USGS monitoring and real-time catalogs will provide the next key updates on any emerging clusters or quiet periods that could influence resolution thresholds.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/browse/significant.php#sigdef).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until the end of the month following resolution time or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
After a qualifying earthquake is registered, this market will remain open for 24 hours to account for any revisions to its recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
