Recent court rulings have solidified the use of Virginia’s existing 2021 congressional districts for the 2026 midterms. On May 8 the Virginia Supreme Court struck down a voter-approved constitutional amendment that would have permitted mid-decade redistricting by the Democratic-controlled General Assembly, citing procedural violations in how the measure reached the ballot. The U.S. Supreme Court on May 15 rejected an emergency appeal to reinstate the new map, which had been designed to favor Democrats in ten of eleven seats. Governor Abigail Spanberger subsequently confirmed that election preparations will proceed under the current boundaries, consistent with the state’s May 12 deadline for finalizing districts. These developments have aligned trader consensus with the established map.
