The closely contested race for second place in Rio Grande do Sul’s October 4, 2026 Senate election reflects a fragmented field where no candidate holds a commanding lead. Recent late-July Quaest polling shows Manuela D’Ávila (PSOL) at 12 percent, followed by Germano Rigotto (MDB) and Paulo Pimenta (PT) at 9 percent each, Marcel Van Hattem (Novo) at 7 percent, and Ubiratan Sanderson (PL) at 6 percent—all within the three-point margin of error. With two seats at stake and no incumbent seeking reelection, voter preferences remain dispersed across left, center, and right-leaning options, while formal campaigning has yet to intensify. Shifts in party coalitions, turnout among key regional blocs, or late endorsements could widen gaps among the top contenders before election day.
