Taiwanese local elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of Hsinchu City as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known, or no candidate has been elected, by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of the elections as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Taiwanese government, specifically the Central Election Commission (https://db.cec.gov.tw/).**Ann Kao holds a commanding position in the Hsinchu City mayoral race as the incumbent independent seeking re-election on November 28, 2026.** Her acquittal on the primary corruption charge in December 2025, followed by reinstatement as mayor, removed a major legal obstacle and restored her eligibility. The Kuomintang has chosen not to nominate a challenger, effectively consolidating pan-blue support behind her despite her prior Taiwan People’s Party affiliation. Recent polling from early September shows her at 48.6% support against DPP nominee Chuang Ching-cheng at 21.2% and independent Ho Chih-yung at 1.8%, with roughly one-quarter of voters undecided. Chuang’s nomination by the DPP Central Executive Committee in April 2026 positioned him as the main opposition contender, but his limited local ties and the split opposition field have constrained his momentum. Ho’s independent bid has drawn minimal backing. These dynamics—Kao’s restored incumbency advantage, cross-party tacit alignment on the opposition side, and consistent polling lead—underpin trader consensus favoring her outcome while assigning low probabilities to the alternatives.
