Hsu Hsin-ying secured the Kuomintang nomination for Hsinchu County magistrate in March 2026 after prevailing in a primary that combined polling and party member votes, overcoming deputy magistrate Chen Chien-hsien. The Democratic Progressive Party followed by nominating Zhubei Mayor Cheng Chao-fang in June 2026. Hsinchu County has historically favored Kuomintang candidates in magistrate races, and traders appear to weigh Hsu’s legislative record and party organizational strength as decisive advantages ahead of the November 28, 2026, vote. Recent polls show a tighter contest with substantial undecided voters, yet market pricing reflects broad consensus on the structural edge for the KMT nominee over DPP and other contenders. Minor candidates and independents remain at negligible implied probabilities absent major shifts in the final months.
