The open Senate seats in Rio Grande do Sul, with both incumbents retiring ahead of the October 2026 vote, have produced a fragmented field of more than a dozen pre-candidates across parties including PSOL, MDB, PT, NOVO, PSD, and PL. Recent polls show the top contenders—such as Manuela D'Ávila, Germano Rigotto, Paulo Pimenta, and Marcel Van Hattem—clustered within the margin of error, reflecting divided voter preferences and the absence of a clear frontrunner. Formal candidacy registrations, candidate debates, and early coalition negotiations have yet to consolidate support, keeping implied probabilities for first place tightly bunched. Further polling shifts, national party alignments, or standout campaign performances could begin to separate the leaders as the race moves toward formal campaigning.
