Recent polls ahead of Berlin’s September 20 state election show the CDU polling at 18–20 percent, down sharply from its 28.2 percent result in the 2023 repeat vote, placing it in a tight three-way contest with the Left party (19–22 percent) and AfD (17–19 percent). The CDU’s decline stems from voter dissatisfaction with the incumbent CDU-SPD coalition’s performance, compounded by the July withdrawal of governing mayor Kai Wegner following criticism of his handling of a major January power outage. His replacement by Stefan Evers as lead candidate has stabilized CDU support in subsequent surveys but has not restored earlier leads. With five parties likely clearing the threshold and no two-party majority projected, seat allocations for the CDU cluster around the low-to-mid 30s under current trends, consistent with trader emphasis on that range while leaving room for modest polling variance or late shifts.
