Persistent late-summer heat across central Texas, driven by strong high pressure, clear skies, and ample solar insolation, underpins trader focus on the 96–99°F range for Austin’s official high on September 18. National Weather Service and model guidance consistently project upper-90s readings, with some runs reaching 99°F while others peak near 95–97°F, creating tight implied probabilities between the leading bins. Light easterly winds and minimal cloud cover or precipitation support efficient daytime warming above the mid-September average of 92°F, yet small differences in boundary-layer moisture or afternoon mixing keep 96–97°F and 98–99°F closely contested. Updated NWS point forecasts and afternoon observations will resolve the market.
