Persistent marine layer and strong onshore flow from the cool California Current, with coastal waters near 55–58°F, are the dominant controls keeping San Francisco temperatures suppressed on August 30, well below the 69.8°F climatological average high. Official National Weather Service and NOAA guidance for the SFO station cite a partly cloudy day with highs near 64–66°F under southwest winds of 10–15 mph, limiting afternoon warming despite typical sea-breeze enhancement from Central Valley heating. Trader emphasis on the 68–69°F and 70–71°F bins reflects modest uncertainty in model runs regarding stratus thinning or reduced wind speeds that could add 2–3°F locally, while stronger marine influence would favor the lower bins already priced lower. With resolution tied directly to the official SFO maximum, any late-day clearing observed in real-time data could still shift the final recorded value within the leading ranges.
