Recent July 2026 ISM Manufacturing PMI strength at 55.6, well above the 54.0 consensus and marking the highest reading since May 2022, anchors trader expectations for August near 55.0–55.9. Broad-based gains in new orders (56.7), production (58.5), and employment (52.8, first expansion in 33 months) reflect resilient demand, low customer inventories, and AI-driven investment that have offset tariff and geopolitical cost pressures. Elevated prices (71.1) and supply-chain frictions remain headwinds, while the August 3 release’s momentum suggests limited downside risk below 54. The September 1 report will clarify whether this expansion sustains amid evolving monetary policy signals and input-cost trends.
