This market will resolve to “Yes” if the United States expels a Brazilian diplomat stationed in the United States between market creation and September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. For the purposes of this market, “expel” refers to a formal action by the United States requiring the Brazilian diplomat to leave the United States, including a declaration of persona non grata. Revocation of a diplomat’s visa or denial of entry to the United States will not alone suffice. An announcement of a qualifying expulsion will suffice for a “Yes” resolution, regardless of whether the relevant diplomat actually leaves the country. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the United States government; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.**Recent US-Brazil diplomatic tensions center on reciprocal visa actions and ambassadorial accreditation disputes rather than expulsions.** In early August 2026 the Trump administration revoked the visa of Brazilian Ambassador Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti in response to Brazil’s withholding of approval for the U.S. ambassador nominee and denial of visas to two U.S. diplomats. U.S. officials explicitly stated this step does not constitute expulsion or require Viotti’s departure; she remains in the country, though she would need to reapply for a visa if she left. Earlier April 2026 measures involved credential revocations and the departure of lower-level police/immigration attaches on both sides under reciprocity, but these stopped short of declaring diplomats persona non grata. Broader strains include U.S. tariffs on Brazilian goods and Brazil’s October elections, yet both governments have framed responses as measured and reciprocal without crossing into formal expulsions. No verified developments since early August signal plans for such an action by September 30, supporting traders’ strong consensus against the outcome.
