Incumbent Prime Minister Robert Abela maintains a commanding position in trader assessments for Malta’s next general election on May 30, reflecting his Labour Party’s consistent polling lead and the structural advantages of holding office during a snap contest called early by his administration. Alex Borg, as Nationalist Party leader, faces an uphill challenge despite recent campaign efforts highlighting policy alternatives on housing and security. Historical patterns of Maltese elections show incumbents rarely displaced without major shifts in voter sentiment, though a close result remains possible if turnout surges among undecided voters or if last-minute developments alter the trajectory before polls close.
