Romania's governing coalition collapsed on May 5, 2026, when parliament passed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, ending a fragile pro-EU arrangement amid disputes over austerity measures and fiscal reforms. President Nicușor Dan has begun formal party consultations to identify a majority-backed successor, explicitly signaling openness to a technocratic prime minister to restore stability and safeguard EU funding access. This environment elevates economist Delia Velculescu, a former IMF official with crisis-management credentials, as the frontrunner in trader assessments. Other listed figures, including political insiders and opposition voices, trail as negotiations remain fluid and no clear parliamentary majority has yet emerged. The market pricing reflects uncertainty around coalition realignments and the preference for non-partisan expertise in the immediate term.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
