Recent August CPI data, released September 11 and showing a 0.4% month-over-month headline increase alongside a hotter-than-expected 0.3% core print, has tightened focus on September figures amid persistent energy price pressures from geopolitical tensions including the Iran conflict. Gasoline costs rose sharply in the latest report and continue climbing, while rising consumer inflation expectations—to 4.6% for the year ahead—signal broader cost pass-through risks in services and goods. Traders weigh these factors against potential moderation in shelter and used-vehicle categories, producing closely matched implied probabilities around 0.2–0.5% month-over-month outcomes. The September 11 CPI print and upcoming September FOMC meeting remain key near-term influences on rate path expectations and subsequent inflation readings.
