Fundamental constitutional and legal barriers drive trader consensus against Venezuela becoming the 51st U.S. state, as admission requires congressional approval, a formal application from the territory itself, and alignment with U.S. sovereignty rules that do not extend to independent nations. Recent comments from President Trump in March and May 2026 floated the idea amid U.S. actions in Venezuela, yet Caracas officials immediately rejected any such path, citing territorial integrity and ongoing diplomatic tensions. No legislation, bilateral negotiations, or domestic political momentum supports statehood. While late developments such as sustained U.S. military involvement, Venezuelan leadership shifts, or congressional proposals could theoretically reopen discussion, these remain distant given entrenched international norms and domestic U.S. priorities.

An official agreement that is announced will suffice to resolve this market to "Yes", regardless of when it is slated to go into effect. If any territory that includes no portion of Venezuelan land is made the 51st US state within this market's timeframe, this market will immediately resolve to "No".
The primary resolution source for this market will be information from the government of the United States, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
