Incumbent Democrat Ricardo Samaniego holds a commanding position in the 2026 El Paso County Judge race due to his unopposed Democratic primary advance in March and the county's strong partisan leanings favoring Democrats in general elections. As a two-term officeholder with prior victories, including a decisive 2022 win, he benefits from name recognition, administrative record on local issues, and established support networks heading into the November 3 contest against Republican nominee Minerva Torres Shelton. Recent activity, such as his July endorsement of a U.S. Senate candidate, underscores ongoing visibility without evident shifts in voter alignment. Traders' implied probability reflects these structural advantages, though a late campaign surge by the challenger, turnout surprises in key precincts, or unforeseen local developments could narrow the gap before election day.
