Ron Nirenberg secured the Democratic nomination for Bexar County Judge by defeating incumbent Peter Sakai with 62 percent of the primary vote in March 2026. As former San Antonio mayor with strong name recognition and an undefeated electoral record, Nirenberg benefits from Bexar County's consistent Democratic tilt in countywide contests. He has also maintained a substantial fundraising edge over Republican nominee Patrick Von Dohlen, a financial adviser who ran unopposed in his party's primary. Traders assign Nirenberg a 96 percent implied probability heading into the November 3 general election. A late-breaking scandal, significant health event, or unusually high Republican turnout could narrow the margin, though no such developments have surfaced in recent months.
