Recent August ISM Manufacturing PMI data at 54.6, down from July’s 55.6 peak but still marking the eighth straight month of expansion, anchors trader positioning for the September release. Moderation in new orders to 53.7 and backlogs to 51.8, alongside persistent price pressures at 71.1 amid tariffs and Middle East supply disruptions, has tempered momentum while production held near 58.3 and 15 of 18 industries expanded. Market-implied odds concentrate around the 54.0–54.9 range at 36.5 percent, reflecting expectations that the sector’s post-contraction recovery will continue at a measured pace ahead of the October 1 report, with lower-probability bins capturing potential further softening or reacceleration tied to input costs and demand trends.
