Republican Jeff Hurd, the freshman incumbent in Colorado’s 3rd District, holds a structural edge in a seat with a Cook Partisan Voter Index of R+5 and consistent “Likely Republican” or “Solid Republican” ratings from nonpartisan analysts. Recent polling from January through March 2026 showed Hurd ahead of likely Democratic nominee Alex Kelloff by 5–9 points, reflecting the district’s Western Slope and rural conservative base. Both parties face contested June 30 primaries—Hurd against Ron Hanks on the Republican side and Kelloff against Dwayne Romero on the Democratic side—creating short-term uncertainty that keeps implied win probabilities for each party below 50 percent. No late-breaking developments have altered the underlying partisan lean or incumbent positioning ahead of the November general election.
