Brief greetings, chance encounters, or talks otherwise not deliberately aimed at diplomacy or negotiation will not count. Remote meetings, phone calls, or other meetings where the relevant parties are not present will not count. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the governments of Russia and Ukraine, and a consensus of credible reporting.Trilateral talks mediated by the United States in Abu Dhabi and Geneva in January and February 2026 produced only limited prisoner exchanges and no progress on core disputes over territory, security guarantees, or ceasefires. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy renewed calls for direct bilateral engagement with Russian President Putin in an open letter in early June, later endorsed by European leaders, but Moscow has not committed to such a format. As of mid-August, Ukraine submitted fresh proposals to U.S. negotiators while talks remain stalled amid the separate Iran conflict, with Russia citing its maximalist demands and upcoming parliamentary elections as factors. Persistent gaps between the parties on sovereignty, occupied regions, and verification mechanisms continue to shape trader assessments of near-term diplomatic meetings.
