The vacancy in the White House press secretary role since Karoline Leavitt’s departure on August 27 has kept the next briefing assignment open, with no successor announced as of early September. Trader odds reflect this uncertainty, showing a cluster of administration figures and surrogates clustered near or below 30% amid speculation over interim or permanent assignments. JD Vance’s September 3 briefing—the first in more than 40 days—highlighted the pattern of senior officials stepping in while the communications team, overseen by Steven Cheung, manages operations without a designated lead. President Trump’s preference for direct messaging and the absence of a firm timeline or shortlist have prevented any single name from pulling ahead, sustaining a tight field where cabinet secretaries, deputies, and communications aides remain plausible depending on scheduling needs or future decisions.

Resolution is based on who actually delivers the briefing from the podium, not on who is listed or announced in advance. If the individual scheduled or announced to give a briefing does not ultimately lead it, this market will resolve to the individual who does. An individual who appears at a qualifying briefing only as a guest, or who speaks only after being introduced by the individual leading the briefing, will not qualify.
For the purposes of this market, a White House press briefing is an event listed on the public White House schedule as a press briefing. Any such briefing will qualify, even if the individual leading it has not been formally announced as the Press Secretary or as an acting or interim Press Secretary. "New Media" briefings and special briefings including additional guests will qualify, so long as the individual leads the briefing.
Impromptu press gaggles, and remarks that are not listed on the public schedule as a press briefing, will not qualify.
If two or more individuals jointly lead the next qualifying briefing, this market will resolve to the individual who speaks first.
If no qualifying White House press briefing occurs by September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other".
This market will resolve based on footage of the briefing, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting.
