Recent numerical weather prediction models from MetService and international ensembles show Wellington’s May 19 maximum temperature centering near 14–15 °C, consistent with mid-autumn climatology where daily highs average 14 °C. Light southerly flow, limited daytime heating under partly cloudy skies, and absence of strong frontal systems keep the forecast tightly clustered between these two bins. Minor differences in timing of any weak ridge breakdown or subtle wind shifts can easily tip the afternoon peak by 1 °C, explaining why trader-implied probabilities remain closely split at 37.5 % for 14 °C and 33.5 % for 15 °C. Updated model runs and local observations through the next 48 hours will further refine the expected peak before resolution.
