The September 13, 2026, Swedish regional election will determine the composition of Skåne’s council and the subsequent majority needed to elect the regional board chair. With the vote roughly four weeks away, market prices reflect a closely contested race between incumbent Carl Johan Sonesson of the Moderates and Henrik Fritzon of the Social Democrats, with neither bloc securing a decisive polling or coalition advantage. Sonesson’s position draws from continuity in healthcare administration and regional finances since 2018, while Fritzon’s support rests on traditional opposition voter bases. Post-election coalition negotiations among multiple parties add further uncertainty, keeping implied probabilities tightly clustered and preventing any candidate from establishing a clear lead. Final poll releases, alliance announcements, or turnout patterns in key municipalities could alter the balance ahead of council voting.
