Recent national and regional polling shows President Lula and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro as the leading contenders for first place in Tocantins’ October 4 first round, with the pair closely matched amid broader national polarization. Lula’s reelection bid benefits from incumbency and established PT organization in the North, while Flávio Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party nomination in July consolidated right-wing support following his father’s endorsement and the party convention. Other candidates including Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, and smaller right-wing or left-wing options register lower shares, fragmenting the field. This fragmentation, combined with Tocantins’ distinct voting patterns relative to national averages and limited state-specific polling, sustains tight trader pricing near 40-42 percent for the top two. Scheduled campaign events through September and any shifts in regional turnout or alliances could widen separation before voting.
