Incumbent Denny Tamaki holds the strongest position in the September 13, 2026, Okinawa gubernatorial election, with traders pricing his re-election prospects well ahead of challengers. His third-term bid benefits from established local support tied to opposition against U.S. base relocation plans, combined with a recent campaign pivot toward medical care, social welfare, and economic benefits for residents. The main rival, Genta Koja—backed by the Liberal Democratic Party—has not yet secured a decisive edge in polling or endorsements, leaving the race centered on unaffiliated voters. Minor candidates, including Mikio Shimoji and others, register negligible probabilities, reflecting limited viability in a contest that has narrowed to these two leading contenders amid stable campaign dynamics.
