An approaching Pacific storm system is the dominant driver behind trader positioning for Seattle's September 2 high temperature, with forecasts from the National Weather Service and other models indicating widespread cloud cover, periods of rain, and southerly winds gusting to 25 mph. These conditions limit solar heating and advect cooler marine air, keeping daytime maxima well below the early-September climatological average of roughly 74°F. Market-implied odds cluster tightly around 64–69°F because small differences in rain onset timing, cloud optical depth, and boundary-layer mixing can shift peak readings by a few degrees; lighter or later precipitation would favor the upper end of that range, while steadier rain and stronger winds support the lower end. Official guidance as of September 1 projects highs in the mid-to-upper 60s, aligning with the narrow spread in current probabilities.
