Elevated inflation readings and a resilient labor market have anchored trader expectations for the Federal Open Market Committee’s January 2027 decision, positioning no change in the federal funds rate as the leading outcome at 58.5% implied probability. Core PCE inflation has remained above 3% through mid-2026 amid tariff effects and supply pressures, while unemployment hovers near 4.3% with steady job gains, reducing urgency for near-term easing and supporting some pricing of a 25 basis point hike at 23%. Recent hawkish communications and stronger-than-expected growth data have tempered cut probabilities to 13.5%, though forward-looking uncertainty around the September 2026 meeting and subsequent releases leaves room for shifts in the market-implied path.
