Recent National Weather Service and model guidance for Chicago on September 17 points to a high in the low-to-mid 70s under mostly cloudy skies, with a 30-40% chance of morning showers or thunderstorms and northeasterly winds of 5-10 mph. These factors limit solar heating and promote modest evaporative cooling, keeping the daily maximum below seasonal norms near 75-76°F. Trader emphasis on the 76-77°F bin reflects residual uncertainty in cloud timing and any brief afternoon clearing that could allow brief warming, while the tight spread across 74-79°F bins captures model spread in precipitation coverage and boundary-layer moisture. Updated NWS briefings and hourly temperature trends through the morning will be the key near-term drivers.
