Recent July ISM Services PMI data at 54.1, slightly below the 54.5 consensus, underscores the sector’s resilient expansion amid moderating tariff and geopolitical concerns, while petroleum price pressures and mortgage rate worries persist. Traders assign the highest probability to a 58+ reading as business activity and new orders indices have shown recent strength, yet the broad distribution across 52–55 ranges reflects uncertainty over whether employment contraction and inflation signals will cap the print near its recent 54 average. With the August report due September 3, market-implied odds embed the latest manufacturing acceleration and services resilience while pricing in risks from monetary policy and input costs.
