Recent August CPI data showing a rebound to 0.8% year-on-year, driven by higher energy and non-food prices amid global commodity pressures, has lifted near-term expectations for September while highlighting ongoing domestic demand weakness and negative food contributions. Trader consensus remains split across the 0.5–1.0% brackets because persistent deflationary pockets in core sectors and subdued consumer spending could offset further energy-driven gains, especially if Middle East tensions ease. Scheduled release of official September figures in mid-October will resolve the market, with any surprise in transport, electronics, or seasonal costs likely to shift probabilities among the closely matched leading outcomes.
