Recent moderation in Canada's headline CPI—from a 3.2% May 2026 peak driven by energy prices amid Middle East supply disruptions to 2.8% in June—has reinforced trader focus on the 2.5–2.9% band for the 2026 annual average. Bank of Canada July Monetary Policy Report projections show inflation easing toward the 2% target amid persistent economic slack, subdued demand, and core measures (median/trim) holding near 1.9%, with gasoline price relief providing near-term downside. Weak growth and anchored expectations limit upside risks despite earlier volatility, while the next CPI release and any further oil price normalization remain key near-term catalysts for shifts in implied probabilities.
