Recent Canadian CPI readings, including a 2.8% June 2026 print down from 3.2% in May amid easing gasoline prices, have anchored trader expectations for the 2026 annual inflation rate near the 2.5–2.9% range, which currently carries the highest market-implied probability at 35.7%. The Bank of Canada’s July Monetary Policy Report highlights near-term upside from oil prices linked to Middle East developments, with headline inflation projected to ease toward the 2% target as core measures (median and trim) remain subdued around 1.8–2.1% and economic slack persists. Forecasts from institutions such as TD Economics and budget updates align with this path, pointing to an average near 2.5% for the year once energy volatility normalizes. Upcoming July CPI data and any further BoC communications on rate policy will likely refine these probabilities.
