Trader consensus currently prices Rafael Grossi at 55 percent to become the next United Nations Secretary-General, ahead of Rebeca Grynspan at 25.5 percent, Michelle Bachelet at 9.3 percent, and Macky Sall at 7.3 percent. Grossi’s position reflects his six years leading the International Atomic Energy Agency, where he has maintained regular engagement with the five permanent Security Council members whose support is required for any formal recommendation. Recent interactive dialogues in April 2026 allowed all four candidates to present reform visions directly to General Assembly members, yet Grossi’s record in crisis diplomacy continues to anchor market pricing. Grynspan’s campaign, focused on data-driven prevention and institutional efficiency, draws support from those seeking stronger development and gender-balance outcomes. Bachelet and Sall remain lower because their profiles have not yet produced comparable traction in early Security Council consultations. The appointment process, governed by Article 97 of the Charter, still requires a Security Council recommendation before a General Assembly vote later in 2026.
