Incumbent Robert Luna advanced from the June 2026 primary with 44% of the vote to face Alex Villanueva in the November 3 runoff, a rematch of the 2022 contest that Luna won decisively. Traders assign Luna an 89% implied probability due to his endorsements from all five county supervisors, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, and the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, alongside his record of crime reductions in department-patrolled areas. Villanueva, at 10.5%, trails amid lingering questions from his prior term regarding department oversight and recruitment challenges. Other listed candidates received negligible primary support and hold no realistic path in the two-candidate general. The market reflects historical re-election patterns for incumbents with unified institutional backing in this nonpartisan race.
