USGS seismic data confirms no magnitude 7.0 or higher earthquakes worldwide since the M7.4 event 100 km ENE of Miyako, Japan, on April 20—a 24-day quiet period shaping trader sentiment toward lower near-term probabilities despite historical norms of 15–20 such events annually along active plate boundaries like the Pacific Ring of Fire. Earlier 2026 activity included a M7.4 near Bitung, Indonesia, on April 1, following March clusters such as M7.5 off Tonga and M7.3 in Vanuatu, highlighting episodic release of tectonic stress but underscoring the Poisson-like randomness of great quakes, which cannot be forecasted short-term. Traders monitor USGS real-time feeds via the Advanced National Seismic System for instant updates, with magnitudes potentially revised within 24 hours of detection.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/browse/significant.php#sigdef).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until the end of the month following resolution time or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
After a qualifying earthquake is registered, this market will remain open for 24 hours to account for any revisions to its recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
