Persistent cloud cover and scattered thunderstorms tied to a flood watch through Wednesday evening are capping solar heating and steering Houston's September 2 high toward the mid-to-upper 80s. Official National Weather Service guidance places the maximum near 91–93 °F with a 50 % storm chance, yet models show widespread moisture and south-southeast flow that favors earlier convection and reduced afternoon insolation. Historical early-September baselines average 91–92 °F under clearer skies; the current pattern’s elevated dew points and rainfall rates therefore shift trader consensus toward the 86–89 °F bins, which together command 66 % implied probability. Updated model runs and afternoon observations will determine whether breaks in cloud cover allow a brief push into the low 90s.
